Also known as the Provence rose or Rose de Mai, it is a hybrid developed by Dutch breeders between the 17th century and the 19th century. France

dsm-firmenich is one of the largest buyers of this type in the south of France. Through its Naturals Center of Excellence in Grasse, the historical birthplace of perfumery, we have played a central role in the revival of Rose de Mai cultivation and extraction in the region over the past five years, developing exclusive partnerships with Rose producers in the South of France on more than 8 ha of cultivation. dsm-firmenich's commitment with local suppliers of Rose de Mai allows them to sustain through multi-annual contracts and purchase prices adjusted to the market so that the sector is resilient. During the five-week blooming season in May, flowers are handpicked early in the morning and brought daily in burlap bags to the dsm-firmenich extraction site in Tourrettes (Var, South of France).
