ELEMI RES is used to add a fresh note to woody, spicy and zesty perfumes, mainly in masculine fragrances.
A primary extraction with a volatile solvent on fresh or dry biomass yields to a Concrete or Resinoid.
The Absolute is obtained via a second purification step in the process.
Extracted part: gum.
Small incisions in the trunk trees exude a fragrant white fluid from the opening known as Elemi gum. Tapping is done once a day during one week on the same bark incision before collecting the gum.
Elemi grows on tropical trees native to Asia, South America and the Philippines. Elemi has been sustainably harvested both from the wild and from cultivated trees planted for the past 30 years by small independent farmers. Collectors tap the trees by incising the bark with a knife and scrape off the gum that accumulates in the cut over several days. Collection is concentrated between July and March, when the yields are highest, leaving the trees to regenerate during the remainder of their growth cycle.
Philippines
The Philippines are the world’s only producer of this oleoresin with a sharp lemon-like scent. Elemi gum is the sap of Canarium luzonicum, a large evergreen native to the archipelago.
