Sourcing

Orange blossom is the white flower of the bitter orange tree. This robust plant doesn’t require any chemical treatments or fertilizers to flourish. Farmers pick the orange flowers in April, mainly by hand. Only 20% of the crop is harvested by machine. On the same day, the flowers are delivered to the factory for extraction to preserve all their freshness and olfactive quality.
Various products can be obtained from the Bitter Orange tree for perfumery purposes.
Depending both on the part of the tree harvested (flowers, fruits, twigs or leaves) and the process applied, dsm-firmenich can obtained:
• Neroli, from the distillation of the flowers.
• Orange flower absolute, by solvent extraction of the flowers.
• Petitgrain oil, by steam distillation of the twigs and leaves.
The orange flower also seduces the flavors industry.

dsm-firmenich sources the best quality of orange flower extracts, promising both traceability and price stability, thanks to our partnerships in Tunisia, in Morocco and in Egypt.

Morocco

In Morocco, dsm-firmenich sources Orange Flower concrete from its partner Les Arômes du Maroc, a leading actor of Orange flowers products. They works with integrated plantations operated responsibly both socially and technically.
