Sourcing

Tagetes, also known as Marigold, is a perennial from the in sunflower family of Asteraceae. Native to the Americas, they grow on hot, dry slopes from the USA to Mexico to Argentina.

Madagascar

dsm-firmenich sources its Marigold from independent producers in Magadascar. This particular species of tagetes grows wild across the island’s central tablelands, which enjoy a dry, Mediterranean climate ideal for this crop.
Villagers remove the flower heads by hand from March and June. The aerial part of the plant can be harvested several times, at about three weeks intervals. The fresh, unprocessed flowers are hydro-distilled by the producers on the day they are picked.
